As I said in yesterday’s post, I kind of got the antique typewriter bug last week. While I was researching the various types of machines, I discovered that the gold standard in the early part of the century was from a company called Underwood. Well, I came across an early portable from Underwood and noticed a familiar design on the ribbon covers:
See how they look like Tridents?
I thought, “Where I have I seen these before?”
And then it hit me:
What on earth could be the connection?
I believe there is a conspiracy underwood foot.
In fact, I’m certain of it. I want to hear your version of this conspiracy.
Just for fun, send me a short-short story (1000 – 1500 words) of just what the heck is going on here. I’ll collate and publish them over at Smashwords.
Come on, you know you want to. Send something before July 20th, ok?

George, this is a hoot!
I’m going to link to this post on the check-in page for the 10K Day. This will make great warm-up material for those who need a warm-up that day. I’m going to use it myself to get warmed up ;~)
I’m not au fait with Smashwords so I’ll be interested to watch that process as well. I always learn something from you when I visit!
Cheers ~ Milli

Thanks Milli!
I think it could be a hoot! I’ve had great success at Smashwords so I’m looking forward to putting out a free ebook over there with all the stories.
Cheers!

I remember an assignment back in the 11th grade and my mom had an old type writer. I had to write a report that was at least 5 pages. I am still not finished, the old mule was a pain to work with.
Great article!

Hey Frank,
Now that’s some funny stuff right there. Be sure and let us know when you’ve got that assignment done.
Cheers!

I LOVE antique typewriters! I even tied one into our home network just because it looked so darned cute.

Hi Barbara,
There is just something about them. Hoo-wee I’ve got the bug. I’ve never “collected” anything in my life but I’m feeling the fever.
