The inspired writer

I had kind of a revelation after I posted this article at Tumblemoose yesterday.

I was reviewing the comments and it occurred to me that most of the comments on this post – and almost all of my others include something about being inspired. And that got me thinking.

A few months back, I had my blog analyzed by Web Design Servers and one of the suggestions was to post more on the topic of writing. I had been doing the usual stuff about blogging, driving traffic, seo, the same as every one else. I slapped my forehead, went, “DUH!” and started to focus on writing. At first it was easy, there were a lot of writing topics to include but I quickly reached a point where I felt like posting any “hard” writing topics would turn away members of the base readership I had built up. I’ve been struggling with this recently and today that changed.

I thought about the inspiration aspect of my postings and the comments and I glanced at the tag line for Tumblemoose Writing Productions. The tag line read, “Freelance Writing and Writer’s Resources”. And while this is a true tag, in a sense it didn’t really tell folks much about what TM was all about and for that matter it wasn’t an accurate reflection of the posts. So, I went in and changed the tag line. It now reads, “Inspiring Writers Every Day”. I’m pretty happy with that. In addition to being more accurate, it more sharply focuses the writing niche and highlights my strength.

So while writing is still going to be the focus, expect the posts to be from the perspective of informing and providing inspiration.  This change in posting is going to be combined with the addition of a new service: Writing Coach and Cheerleader – no kilt cracks, please :-) .  To learn more about this service see the Rates and Services page.

I’m very excited about this new phase of Tumblemoose.  I feel like I’m getting settled in and entrenching my blogging niche even further.

So the lesson here is that stagnation can hold you back. Don’t be afraid to evaluate and look at what you are doing if you have a web site – be it blogging or writing or whatever.

Along the same lines...

Inspiration and positive thinking obviously motive people and a motivated person will be much more productive, possibly even more creative. I think this is a natural path for you and your blog. Revelations are how stars are born!

The longer Tumblemoose is online the more it will evolve. I say that with all confidence because it is the mark of a blog that is inspired.

In the vein of inspiring writers, I wonder what you think about the sort of inspiration that can come from a site like What I See Out My Window.

It would be an interesting exercise, I think, to write a post from the perspective of someone looking out one of the windows.

Love the insight George! Sometimes it can be hard to change. It’s much easier to stay in one’s comfort zone than to venture outside.

Good for you, and I love the new tag line. Very fitting :)

Hi George – Great observation. Often we only have a few seconds to let others know what our blog is about, so changing the tagline to fit your topics will shows others at first glance.

    Barbara,

Thanks for stopping by. I think the tag line does make a difference – I’m going to have to figure out how to manipulate the theme to make it more prominent.

I’m so excited for you George!

Writing coach sounds like the perfect job for you. I wonder if eventually you could write a book? I wonder how well ebooks really do?

Never forget your “brand”…I first came to your blog and thought of you as a writer, I’m sure many people did the same. Going back to your roots as it is will only strengthen this brand over time.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into this site!

    Thanks Tracy,

I am considering that very thing, although perhaps not in ebook format. (Sounds of gears whirring, grinding, turning)

Great post George. It has actually made me take a look at my own tag line to see if it relates to my blog also. It’s amazing how things can change over the course of things and a tag line that seemed so valid a year ago might not be doing justice for your blog now. I love your new tag line by the way – The inspired writer – makes me want to read what you write even more.

Enjoyed the post. I love the focus on writing itself. The SEO work and driving traffic to websites might get you an initial audience, but it’s the writing that keep the readers coming back. It’s the way to connect with a blogger audience.

    Hi Gennaro,

Thanks for coming by and commenting. I agree that after the initial stuff is out of the way, good writing prevails. I’ll bet this is part of the reason it takes 6 months or so for a blog to “settle down” and find its groove!

Much better tagline, and more fitting. Congrats to you for revamping, or perhaps re-aiming, what you’re doing. That’s so huge and I’m excited for you.

I also feel like I’m “settling in.” Mostly, to some new ways of thinking about my writing, and writing as my career, and also how I’m looking at my design biz. So, I’m definitely looking forward to your new posts! Much luck.

    Hi Diane,

It’s nice to see you here, and thanks for commenting, fellow twitterer.

I’m excited about the changes and inspired as well. Sometimes an epiphany just falls out of the sky and… well, you know.

    Cheers!

    George
