  3. Ah, the archives! I have a few jewels in my own I wish got more attention, so I appreciate you bringing one of yours out and shining it up.

I recently read something by who knows who that roughly said something like(and said it fairly roughly, too) we should be able to condense our story into one sentence.

    One sentence! Absurd?

No, I don’t think so. What do you say when a well-meaning friend asks what your book is about? Do you, like me, hem and haw and say something like, “Well, it’s complicated really.”

I wonder if they’re sorry they asked after that.

It’s a great exercise to help bring focus to a writing project too. Even the Bible could be reduced to, “It’s a story about the creation and redemption of mankind.” So why shouldn’t I do the same with my own writing?

  4. Hi Terry,

Point well taken. I know a lot of folks who stress over the synopsis and I think that often times it doesn’t need to be that stressful.

It is a good exercise and could help you to focus your prose to pinpoint accuracy in terms of plot or character development.

    Cheers

    George
