When I decided to get back into writing, I spent a lot of time on the web. I set up Stumble to hit writing sites among other things and I ravaged and bookmarked dozens of writing resource and job sites.
I know this can’t be news to anyone but there is an awful lot of hoo-ey on the web. I know, its sounds crazy, but it’s true.
One of the gems I found though, is Textbroker . What a perfect opportunity to work on writing web content. Client assignments range from 100 – 5000 words and most involve using key words for SEO. After sending an initial writing sample, I heard back and received my initial rating of 4 out of 5 stars. I immediately went to work. I wrote 100 word snippets, 400 word informational articles and everything in between.
Then one day I hit it big. While looking through client orders, I found a client looking for someone to put together a list of web site descriptions, 100 words each and about twenty of them. These larger assignments seem pretty rare so I snagged it and got to work. Many of the clients at Textbroker are from the UK, so the articles need to be written in UK English – not American. So I set up Firefox for English-UK, downloaded an add-on for the £ symbol and went to work.
The client loved it, rated it excellent and two days later a received a direct order from the same client for a 5000 word article doing the same type of directory work.
I love Textbroker. I can write as much or as little as I like. I’m not going to get rich, but I am able to make possible connections for future freelancing projects, and I get to hone my SEO skills.
