November is the traditional novel writing month for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). What’s the big idea? Easy. A commitment to write a 50,000 word novel starting with word one on November 1st and completing the project by November 30.
Are you afraid of commitment? So what. Cast all of your worries and baggage aside and get to it. What a great motivator. Commit to doing this. Work under deadline. There is pressure.
Here’s the idea in a nutshell, taken directly from the source:
“Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.”
Now I ask you, How fun is that?! Think about it. You’re not writing for a fussy editor. You’re not writing perfect prose for the sake of perfection. This is in the trenches, take no prisoners, kill ‘em all – let God sort ‘em out, balls to the wall writing. At what other time would you allow yourself this kind of writing freedom?
So head on over, sign up, and get ready to have some fun.

I tried my hand at Nanowrimo a couple years. It’s how I learned that fiction is definitely not my bag. =) But I think it’s great all the same. Will YOU be participating?
