I almost made a silly mistake this weekend. I know, hard to believe. You see, I needed to choose a domain name and a hosting provider for my new business as a Book Consultant for Usborne Books. I went to a domain search site and after an hour or so of brainstorming, consulting a thesaurus and pondering choices I decided on a name I’m totally happy with.
Thus was born www.mightykidsbooks.com
Next step, find a domain registrar and hosting provider. Well, I went straight to my current hosting company, Hostgator. I’ve had no real issues with them and it seemed logical to keep things in one spot.
Blech. $15 to register the domain, and the least expensive package was 8.95 a month on the pay-as-you-go plan. Total due: $23.49. Yeah, not a huge chunk o’ change but these days every penny counts. Since I’ve got a website through Usborne, I essentially needed a good domain name and the ability to forward that domain traffic to my Usborne site.
I was all ready to “proceed to checkout” when I remembered something. Something important. I’ve been fortunate to have some interaction through this blog with John of WP Blog Host. Whoa, time to put on the brakes and head over to see what John was offering. I am so glad I did.
Here’s what I got:
- I chose an absolutely no-frills domain registration for less than 8 bucks.
- A bare bones package of hosting that fits my needs perfectly for freeeeee.
- A single email address for my new domain.
- Up and running with domain forwarding in less than 30 minutes.
I’d love to say something nice about the support, but it was so easy, I didn’t need any. I suspect even a caveman could do it.
The ability to upgrade in any number of ways is available and the prices meet or beat anything around.
There are so many great features about WP Blog Host that I could go on and on, but I won’t. Even if you’re kinda happy with your current provider you need to go over and see what John has got going on. I’ll just bet you’ll be happy you did. I know I am.

Wow, George, it sounds awesome!!
And best wishes on your new business – and site!
