Since my very first post about the great e-book publishing service, Smashwords, I’ve been raving about what a great deal it is for authors. In fact, it is great for anyone who is considering publishing an e-book. Well, Mark Coker over at Smashwords has just raised the bar another notch and left a lot of e-book publishers in the dust. I just received an update email where he announces that:
“Smashwords is evolving to become a full service ebook distributor. Smashwords will soon begin distributing e-books to major online retailers, the first of which is Barnes & Noble and their various properties including Barnesandnoble.com, Fictionwise and their eReader app.”
As an author who has had 750 copies of my 5 e-books downloaded, I am ecstatic about this news.
The email from Mark outlines what it takes to be included in the “premium” catalog. There are no tricks or silly hoops to jump through. Essentially, if you have done what you should have done in the first place when you published your e-book, there is a good chance you’ll be included.
For authors already published at Smashwords, this will increase your shelf presence tremendously.
For those of you who have not published at Smashwords, what in the wide world of sports are ya waiting for? It doesn’t cost a darned thing to get started, the interface and styleguide are steeped in common sense and Smashwords is not going to suck your royalty well dry.
Thanks, Mark. Thanks, Smashwords.
