You can be a writer for a day! Intrigued? Read on.
All It Takes…
All it takes is a little commitment. Just a little because you’re going to be a writer for one day. That’s all.
Today, just for today you’re going to write. Don’t think about tomorrow, or next week or how long it is going to take to write that novel. None of that matters. Future days are not your concern: Today is your only concern.
You can’t write anything tomorrow. It’s not possible. You can only write something today because today is all there is.
There are programs out there that push a “one day at a time” philosophy. There is a lot of wisdom there. You don’t have to be a writer for the rest of your life. You have to be a writer today. If you put all of your effort into writing today then you have been a writer for a day. String a bunch of todays together and guess what? Yup, all of a sudden you’re a writer.
So, sit down and start eating that elephant. One bite at a time will do.

George, this is the perfect philosophy for any writer to live by. Thank you! I’ll contact you by email to ask permission to reprint this for my students.
Meanwhile, I’m going to keep this article open in my browser tab all day today and live by it myself.

Thank you, George.
Words of wisdom George! I’ve been thinking about it and I might just do NaNoWriMo this year.
Hi Tracy,
Thanks! I’d love to do NaNoWriMo but it’s not in the cards for me this year. Thanks for the reminder tho, I need to get a post out about that.

Hi George,
I think this is exactly what I needed to hear to get my writing going again. You know, Im still be lazy with posting on Insight Writer. And really, instead of looking at it as something huge I just need to start doing a little at a time. Short articles really are ok to write. I shouldn’t feel like i need to always write something really long. Thanks so much!
Cheers,
Jeremy

Jeremy,
I am so glad to hear it. You know if there is ever anything I can do…

Now, that looks solid to me. After all, it’s only for a day, right? Does it come with a fine print that says I can extend it on a day to day basis? I bet it does. That’s the point after all – trampling on one’s fears one day at a time.
Maybe with this mindset we get nearer to calling ourselves author. Right, George? What a fine title that is.
