Last month I reviewed an E-Book for Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen on writing. Well, she’s followed that up with an excellent resource for successful blogging and I think it’s a hit. Most of us that spend a lot of our times keeping a blog would like to be able to make some money from our efforts. You can spend a lot of time scouring the internet for monetizing tips or you can get Laurie’s E-book and save yourself a lot of time and hassle.
There are a couple of things that I really like about the approach taken in this book. Emphasis is made on producing a quality blog, a blog that will serve the needs of your readers. Sure, there are a lot of places that will tell you how to fill your blog with ads, scrape content from other more worthy sites and push the limits of marketing. Maybe that philosophy snags a few folks, but it’s not what any blogger with integrity wants their name associated with.
Another approach that I think is cool is the easily read format. Each chapter starts with a list of snags to be untangled. These snags are the most common concerns for bloggers as they work their way through the internet minefield. At the end of the chapter is a brief summary that reinforces the main points of the chapter. I know that this is kind of standard, but the way that Laurie pulls it all together is unique and easy to comprehend.
Quips and Tips contains straight talk about all things blogging. The first chapter serves as a great foundation and describes how to build a better, stronger blog. That chapter is followed by an excellent primer on advertising and how it works. I’ve used some of the techniques that Laurie describes and I know they work. A third chapter gives the reader great information about how to make money from a blog and what to expect in terms of time frame and such.
Finally, the book concludes with a list of 50 different affiliate programs. This is great because you could spend a lot of time hunting these down on your own and there are some real stinkers out there. Laurie has put together some of the best.
I’m pretty certain that this book could help bloggers of all levels. I know that there were a lot of things that came to light that I didn’t previously understand. I’ve been blogging for about two years and I think the information in here helped to move me along further towards a three year blogger.

Thank you for your review, George!
This ebook was hard for me to write, because I feel like I’m competing with bloggers who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year blogging. But that’s not a realistic or achievable goal for most of us — and Successful Bloggers focuses on earning several hundred dollars a month (to start!). Earning six figures as a blogger is like earning six figures doing most anything: it takes alot of time, dedication, talent, experience, and determination. Earning five figures is much easier!
All good things,
Laurie

Hey Laurie,
All of your hard work writing it paid off in in my reviewing it. You made it easy to crow about what a great book this is. It really is something I wish I had read before I started blogging!
