Sam I Am would not be a happy camper. As a new web site, Tumblemoose has spent a LOT of time researching important and attractive elements to include here. At times, I’m enthralled when I’ve found something that fits the vision. Other times I’m disappointed and wish that someone would take the “RUBE” sign off of my back.
I learned a long time ago that in order to keep my inbox to a manageable level, I needed several email accounts. There is my main account that is used for general correspondence from my bank, etc… and then I have a “junk” email account at Yahoo when I don’t necessarily trust a site that asks for my email address.
This system works fairly well, but sometimes there’s a problem deciding how legitimate a site is. Make the wrong choice and the primary email account is toast. And that is just wrong.
As I’ve perused the ‘net for freelance opportunities, I have come across so many examples of “bad” opportunities. Some are obviously MLM scams, some are “work from home” schemes and some are just blatant trash. I guess what gets to me is that often times these are disguised or advertised as legitimate freelance opportunities and I don’t discover the true virtue until I’ve spent some time and drilled down a few layers.
The obvious scams are frustrating enough, in that I’ve wasted valuable time looking through meaningless trash. What is even more frustrating is following up on a legit connection, only to find after several rounds of correspondence that the “client” is really looking for someone to contribute to a mindless and inane forum they’ve set up. Again, valuable time is sucked into the World Wide Vortex of crap.
Each day there are lessons learned and as I go along I’m getting better at spotting the time thieves and spam artists. One day I’ll have my due, I think. Until then, I’ll plug along.
