Commanding the helm of the new blog of the week is not an easy task, I am quickly discovering. Through my internet travels I bookmark potential candidates and then when the time is write, I put those under a microscope. I look for young sites that have interesting perspectives and great information. However great information is not the only criteria. Some of the sites I considered this time were either too plain or too difficult to navigate. Some were too monetized and others had strong religious overtones. So after a bit of reflection, I’ve decided that I’m especially happy to offer up the one today.
One of the things that makes a strong site is the personality of the owner. You certainly want someone who engages the audience and interacts through the comment section. (Sorry Seth Godin, you don’t make the grade in this category) The New Blog of the Week this time is a site that I have been visiting for nearly my entire life as a blogger. Every time I visit his site I walk away with fresh ideas for how to make my business a little smarter.
I love the look and feel of this web site. It is clean and fresh. Lots of white space so I don’t feel rushed.
We all know content is king. Check out the title’s of some of the most recent gems at the NBOTW:

If you have a blog, then you have a business, technically. Treating your blog like a business is the best way to help it grow and attract visitors. I’ve found the tips here to be a tremendous help in moving my business move forward.

Hey Andy,
Nice to see you here. I don’t subscribe to many sites in that genre so I get that kind of info straight from Matt.
George
Yay! I LOVE Matt’s blog. I’ve been a fan for quite a while now, too. Matt is creative, always writes fresh, inspiring articles, and is fabulous about continuing conversation throughout each comment thread. He’s SO deserving of your blog of the week!

Barbara,
So nice to see you here. I’m glad to do this, I’m learning a lot about a lot of great sites. I think you’ll like Matt’s stuff!
George
“However great information is not the only criteria.”
Proper English also helps on a “writing services” blog, as in: “However, great information is not the only criterion.”
Criteria is plural.
(And “however” takes a comma).
Good Lord. Thank you SO much for pointing out my egregious error.
I’m awful glad you cruised by.

I just returned to the office after what turned out to be a long,
stressful, and demanding weekend, to find this – WOW, what a suprise!

Hi George,
Matt’s blog is a superb choice. And I totally agree with what you say. If we blog, it’s like having a business. Our readers are our customers and it’s up to us to provide a good “service”
I also see you’re learning how to pick them, or not. As you said, there’s more to consider than just a blog being new. You make me proud.
Welcome Matt! Congratulations on your New Blog Of The Week title.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks! I’ve learned a lot from paying attention to your blog, and apparently some of the info has made it through my titanium plated melon.

I think I have to jump in on your idea that blogging is like a business. There are peepz who say that blogging is a hobby and should not be considered a business unless one really wants to built a money empire out of his blog. However, what makes blogging much better if it is put on a platform like how a businessman runs his business. One needs to see results, adhere to some standards, and needs to do lots of work in blogging. And these stuffs being practice in the world of business makes blogging reach a higher level of a blogger.
Jan is indeed right. Tumblemoose is one blog which should be considered a must. On to my reader now.:D
Hey Elmot,
I appreciate you coming by. I’ll have to give ol’ Jan a big wet sloppy one the next time I see him
I hope to continue to meet your expectations!
George
